За православне вјернике сутра почиње Великогоспојински пост којим се припремају за празник Успенија Пресвете Богородице – Велике Госпојине 28. августа.

Великогоспојински пост увијек почиње на Свете мученике Макавеје 14. августа и траје 14 дана. Установљен је у славу Успенија Пресвете Богородице, када се обиљежава дан када се Богородица успела на небо.

Пост у хришћанству не значи само одрицање од мрсне хране и пића, већ првенствено има духовну димензију и огледа се у уздржавању од рђавих мисли, ријечи и дјела, те појачању молитава и чињењу добрих дјела.

Током овог поста за исхрану се користи биљна храна припремљена на води, осим суботе и недјеље када је дозвољена употреба уља и вина. Риба се у току овог поста једе само на празник Преображења Господњег, 19. августа по новом календару.

Некада су током овог поста, који се убраја у строге, биле забрањене јавне приредбе и спектакли.

Уз једнодевне постове сваке сриједе и петка, осим месопусних седмица, те празника Усјековања главе Светог Јована Крститеља и Крстовдана, Српска православна црква прописује четири велика поста, и то Великогоспојински, Велики или Часни пост, Божићни и Петровски.
